How long after realizing you wanted to race did it take you to get your car on the track? I have always wanted to race, used to drag my own personal cars at times in my teens. Met Billy Hudson, he gave me a chance to drive his car, hot lapping then heat races, got dirt in my blood, he found a car and built it for me so I could have a chance to drive my own car
How nervous were you the first time you came onto the dirt track for a race and does it get easier every time? Very nervous, and yes it has gotten better each time out. Now I can’t wait to get out there and run. Now after my accident I am counting down the days til I can get a chance to drive again.
Have you had an instance yet that scared you while in a race?
A little spooked from hitting the wall and not being able to find my left hand when I saw my right hand, all I could see was my jacket sleeve, a bit weird….. Been three wide – caught in the middle and had a blast, got thru those instances and kept on racing…..
What would you tell anyone who wanted to start racing?
Get in there and drive, pace themselves out learning their car and the track(s)
Do you think racing has changed over the years? If so, how and in what direction?
Loss of tracks, More money spent on cars/motors/suspension/etc than just building a race car and running as a hobby or for the fun of it.
