Dereck Burgess wins 3rd place Saturday night 5/22 at TR Speedway in the Young Guns class. After weeks of having mechanical problems, it seems they may all be behind him now.

Young Dereck Burgess gets to collect his 2nd Place trophy for coming in second in the Points at TR Speedway for 2009. Starting the main race event on April 3rd, things looked like he may just finish again in 3rd place but his motor blew coming to the checkered flag and he took 4th.
The week before, Burgess blew his motor and put in his good old faithful motor from last season. Whatever they did really worked! He kept that #99 hauling dust and took home the 3rd place win at TR Speedway March 27th, 2010. A 1st place finish is coming soon for Dereck Burgess!

Does anyone else in your family race? If so when and where did or do they race? My Father raced in the 80′s and a year or so in the 90′s at Greenville Pickens Speedway.

Which local track do you consider your home track? Travelers Rest Speedway
What do you do besides race for fun? Work on cars or hang with friends.
What is your favorite track in the whole US? Bristol Motor Speedway
Do you plan on continuing to race and if so what division would you like to eventually be in? Yes I do and hopefully a top V8 division.
Do you work on your car, have a crew or both? My Dad and I work on it along with family and friends.

How long after realizing you wanted to race did it take you to get your car on the track? 11 years
How nervous were you the first time you came onto the dirt track for a race and does it get easier every time? I was worried about messing up both my car and someone elses car but I still get anxious while we are sitting in the infield waiting to go out.
Have you had an instance yet that scared you while in a race? Yes, when two cars got into a wreck and one rolled over and i barely missed it.
What would you tell anyone who wanted to start racing? As long as you are always having fun then its the greatest thing you could do.
