The Presnell family have been racing around the Upstate of South Carolina since the 1970’s. Newman Presnell has only been on the track for approximately 5 years, yet drives like he has been there a lifetime. Maybe that is because his heart has been in it since birth. Newman’s father David Presnell raced locally back in the 70’s till late 80’s or early 90’s.
Newman Presnell began racing on dirt at Riverside Speedway in 2005 in the Young Guns class. No one was surprised to see him take to this sport like a duck to water. “I have had my great nights and my bad nights but so has anyone who has been in this for any length of time. You just keep on keeping on.” said Newman. He moved up to Stock 4 and began running at Windy Hill (now known as TR Speedway) when Riverside closed down and has called it home ever since. He does however travel to local tracks from time to time and participates in the 4 Cylinder Nationals every year.
With 2 track Championships, one for Young Guns in 2005 at Riverside and Stock 4 in 2007 at Windy Hill (TR Speedway) and the 28 combined class wins, another win is no doubt in the very near future. His positive attitude and out going spirit has made him the most popular driver around. “I just have fun with it. There is no sense in getting all worked up over a simple racing deal. Things happen on the track all the time that you have no control over and when I strap in, I accept that fact.” said Newman. His mother and father have kept him level headed and it shows.
The proverbial Monkey has been attached to young Presnell so far this 2010 season. With only 4 races in, he has had motor problems and lost his whole front nose piece in a crash at TR Speedway after being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He began driving the Y2K again this year after making a switch from his 48 number of last year. Things are looking better since the last race and I think his luck is starting to change. The competition is stiff this year in Stock 4 with the number of cars racing on a weekly basis but I feel certain he will get that first win of the season soon.
