Noise Ordinance or A Few Trying To Rule is the question on many minds as we look to the County Council meeting coming in Oconee County January 5th, 2010.

A couple of residents have caused problems on many occasions trying to shut down or limit the 1/4 mile dirt track in Westminster SC. They have not taken into account the amount of money that these drivers, fans and employee’s bring into the community on a weekly basics. It seems they could care less about the economic factor that this business of racing brings to the county as a whole.

Mr and Mrs. Massey along with Mrs. Holbrooks have been adamant that the noise from Westminster causes them problems, yet other closer neighbors to the track have said no problems have occurred for them and they welcome the business in their local community. Westminster Speedway has been operating on and off since the late 1950′s early 1960′s. It was reopened by Andy Hyde and Jimmy Franklin back on August 7th, 2009 and their first race was cut short due to police presence shutting them down with no warning. It is time that drivers, fans, crews and staff stand up together and let the Government know that this sport is no different than Basketball, Football or any other activity. The majority are glad to see this industry grow, yet the council is allowing the few to dictate the rules.

why is it that people seem to only want to fuss instead of be thankful that a business even comes to there town? do they just not get how many jobs and money these tracks bring to the areas? WTH

  3. botched says:

Maybe the people complaining have nothing better to do with their time than bitch. They should close down all the bars, festivals, dance halls and any other entertainment establishments in Oconee county and send them our way. Drunk drivers do more damage to a community than racing ever will.

  4. Robin Green says:

Yes, the meeting is now the 19th of January. You can view and contact the council on their home page that I have placed within the article.
