Thanks to the Burgess family for taking these great videos that we can all enjoy each week.
Racing at TR Speedway has grew rapidly over the last few weeks with 100 cars showing up this past Saturday August 22nd, 2009 for some of the best local dirt track racing in Travelers Rest South Carolina. I look forward week in and out for Saturday night and the driver, fans and staff never let us down. The shows have been fantastic. Keep up the great work TR Owners and Staff.
South Carolina racing doesn’t get any better than this!
Young Guns
These young drivers showed up to run their race. (These are in no particular order.) #07 Austin Aker / #23 JB Moser / #14 Rodney Stepp / #3 Alyssa Charping / #95 Hunter Leonard / #99 Dereck Burgess / #47 Christina Worthy / #32 Amanda Odom / #11 Matt odom / #4Jr Jason Calhoun
The heat race was a bit hectic, with a few mishaps. The #99 of Dereck Burgess had some mechanical issues and was only able to run the last couple of laps in the main event, but the #3 of young Alyssa Charping encountered enough damage after a collision to prevent her from even running the mains. Once the mains got started, they were all off and running. The new kids and more advanced youngsters took it in stride. Unlike last week, a few cautions were called. JB Moser took the checkered flag for the win.
Renegade
What a night in this class! These drivers put on a show each week and this week the red flags flew, not once, but twice. The heats went off very well and the start of the main event was spectacular with the door to door action all the way through the entire field. A few cautions here and there until the last few laps when the bad luck hit hard for the #777 of Steve Beechum in turns one and two flipping uncontrollably. Parts were scattered all along that track like I have never seen, but he walks away with only a slight limp. The last red flag for this class was a few laps later for the #14 of Adam Landford flipping in turns three and four. Dwight Smith held his line and went home with the win.
Stock 4
Many cars showed up for this class. Some were cars that had taken some time off and others were cars I have not seen before at TR this year, but all in all they put on a great show. The heats and the main event had fans going crazy for their favorite driver through out the entire time their tires were on the dirt. Fans were almost stunned seeing cars going 5 wide off turn four on a start up during the main, but after only a few cautions and battles up and down the field of cars, Joey Kelly takes the win.
Stock 8
This fan favorite class, as always, had fans on their feet from the start to the finish. The heats were just as good as the mains and the drivers ability to maintain their heading left little reason for cautions in this class. Timmy Smith once again took the checkered for ? wins, I even lost count of how many wins he has had this year.
Limited Sportsman
Gabby Owens wins this one coming off of turn 4 in the last lap. It was overwhelming the number of fans excited to see him take home his first win of the 2009 season at TR Speedway.
Pure Stock
They showed a change from last weeks derby, but swapping paint is often the norm in this class. Some drivers were new to the class but not new to the sport. They just wanted to change it up a little, which they did. The battles were going 3 wide for most spots down the line of cars, yet Timmy Smith was able to hold his front position to take the checkered flag for the win.
GM Performance
The crate race was one of the best I have seen in a few weeks with the battle hot and heavy upfront between Travis Blackwell and Darrin Hill, until the worst crash I have seen happens after Hill losses control, spins out and is sent to the back for restart. That is when the craziest red flag conditions happened. Riddle and Dill collided in turn 4 and Hill came up on it like a shot. Darrin went airborne using the cars as the mechanism to seek his height and rolling. It was nothing like I had ever seen. I missed most of it, but what I did see was the wildest ride in their division by far this year. Travis Blackwell took home the win.
Stay tuned for the last two videos as they become available I will post them.
