Our beginning just keeps getting worse

I have been trying not to talk about the evils that lurk when you are new but here we go. Starting out in the racing world is never easy but we took on that challenge as a family starting out in late 2008 with a then 12 year old girl who wished to drive in Young Guns.

We started out purchasing a car that was told to me to be ready to run “just drop a motor in it” he said. Boy did that remain far the truth. It not only did not have a motor in it, it also had cut brake lines, cut fuel lines, needed a new everything, no radiator, no fan, transmission was shot and not even a gear shift. It was all my fault for not knowing enough when I took on this venture. I thought that people would be honest when a 12 year old girl was getting in this thing, I guess that goes to show you were the morals of some people have gone.

Now after we purchased this car, my husband was laid off but we still managed to buy a used motor, trans, several carbs and lots of used parts along with a rebuild kit for the motor. We tried to make due with what we had until a very kind man said he would help build the motor with no strings attached. We had several offers but decided to go with this one guy because he knew his stuff (or so we thought was honest) having been the lead mechanic for a nice, successful young driver. Little did we know that more than 6 months down the road we would still be trying to get our motor back along with all the parts and money we put into this venture. Now we are still trying to get the motor to this day and trying to save up for another used one to get this now 13 year old young lady going.

It is hard for me to say but when someone offers to help, I question whether it is an honest thought or just a chance for us to get taken advantage of, again. Since this started, I have learned a lot. The facts are that you can trust very few in this sport. Now this only pertains to our race car and I have meet several drivers through the act of doing articles on them, that would give you the shirt off their back. Too bad we happen to have meet the few that turned my stomach so bad to the act of trusting.

We are still in the process of trying to get this girl going and she and I have been patient but enough is enough. We will get things on the way at some point but who knows when that will be as we have already sunk all we have into this adventure and still saving to get what was taken from us The car may not look like much but it means the world to my daughter. I am the one to blame for jumping in head first instead of learning before I went but on well. What is done is done.

Good luck to anyone trying to find their way in this sport. I will continue to do my best and report as I see it and some day see my daughter full fill her dreams.
