Local drivers sometimes get the fan base and sometimes not. Allen Wilson has had it from the very first time he came out on the race track at Travelers Rest Speedway. No one seemed to know much about this young man but quickly learned through interviews from news channel 4, track officials, myself and others.
The 25 year old Mr. Wilson is a paralyzed US veteran who stepped into a dirt track race car in 2008 for his first time ever. His car is completely outfitted with all hand controls and he is learning how to wheel that car just as good as some of the veteran drivers. The 2009 season should be a great one for Allen.
Each and every week I wait to see if he is going to wheel that blue Firebird, with the handicapped symbol on the side, out on the track for yet another race. The first race of the 2009 season, he got into the wall early on in the main event which tore the right side finders almost off and messed up the computer system. He missed one week and then made it back last weekend.
The heat was looking really good for Allen and he came in to place third on the start up for the main event. He however had some battery problems and was unable to make it back out for the start of the main event. Trying to come in on lap 4 was unsuccessful making only a lap until the battery again died.
Maybe next week will yeild a better day for our young Allen Wilson.

This guy is just great to watch!
Now this is what I call “Pure Motivation” as it was so note worthy said before. Great job and keep up the work Allen. You will get to the winners circle soon enough.
We have so much fun cheering for this nice young man. He has had some mechanical problems this season so far but I am sure he will be well on his way to victory lane soon.
