The weather does not seem to be giving the racing community of Travelers Rest a break so far this season. Once again today, the “O’Reilly SAS East Super Late model” race was called off due to rain. This is the second time in two months that drivers and fans both have meet the same fate of a red flag start to the 2009 season. Promoter Jody Palmer of TR Speedway held out until the last possible moment when finally he called it a no go.

Many driver’s, racing team’s, family and friends worked feverishly all week to get each car ready for the big event only to see that mother nature had her own plan for race day. The only way races would go on at TR Speedway would be in a boat with flotation devises.

Without the smell of the wet clay and racing fuel mixed with corn dogs and boiled peanuts, the fans are left wondering when they will ever feel the heart stopping engines of the late models making their way around the track in the near future.

This race is now rescheduled for March 21st and 22nd, 2009 unless the bottom drops out for the third time. We can all hope that nature will take a break at least on race day. This is becoming a season of rescheduled races for the racing world of Upstate South Carolina. They say “April showers bring May flowers” but it may be starting a bit early this year. In this draught stricken state, we can use all the rain we can get.
