The weather here in the South is very unpredictable

This 2009 season has gotten off to a rocky start with the first 3 races or practice session’s being canceled due to rain / snow. In racing, the weather can make or break a race unless of course you have an indoor track. Both Cherokee and Travelers Rest Speedway have had to call off races over the last 2 weeks because of the weather.

February 22nd Cherokee called off their practice due to possible rain coming in. However,  it was called off several days in advance and actually turned out to be a nice day. It was no ones fault because the weather channel had called for it. They also had to cancel the March 1st race due to snow. Which we got a lot of.

Travelers Rest Speedway postponed the SAS East Super Late model on February 28th due to rain. It was posted early on the morning of the 28th that the race would not be running. They waited until the last possible minute in hopes of getting the race in if at all possible.

The weather is very unpredictable here in the South and both tracks did the right thing. There is no wrong or right way to cancel a race provided you get the information out as soon as possible. Both of these tracks have always tried to do the best thing for their fans and drivers a like.

Maybe we can actually get to see the March Madness race this weekend at Cherokee Speedway. The weather channel is calling for it to be nice and 70 degrees.

You said it right. Here in the South you never know what kind of weather you are going to get from day to day. It can get down right crazy.

Based on my experience, storms and weather of this generation seemed unpredictable. It might be due to ‘Global Warming’.
