It has been amazing at how many great ways people have come up with raising money to help keep themselves on the race track this year. Racing can put a huge financial burden on anyone who is going it alone like 18 year old Matt Larmore of Clermont, Florida. Matt has been racing Go Karts for years and is now getting into the Sprint division.
After joining Starving Racers (which is also a great program that helps drivers get the gear and equipment they need), he thought about having his own program for his car as well. This is where 10 Dollar Sponsorship has come into play. This simple, yet creative way of offering sponsorship is sure to be the next best thing for the average Joe to help keep him / her self in racing especially in this crazy economic time. This site is set up for those who wish to donate $10 at a time in order to keep Matt Larmore racing for the entire 2009 season.
I asked Mr. Larmore how this would work and through our email conversation this is how he has explained the site.
"From the main page, most people will scroll down just a little to see the sprint car 'drawing' on the main page with the different area's written on it (Top wing, Tail, Arm Guard, ect.) and each one of those area's is a link. They can click that link and it will be taken to a page that they can see who all has sponsored/donated to get their name on that specific area, and they have an option to sponsor/donate that area to get their name on it. Once they sponsor/donate, I will then update that same area of the page with their name on it for everyone else to see that they have helped sponsored/donated. You can get to that page from either clicking the sprint car on the front page, or clicking the "Sponsors" link in the top right of any page. Yes, I will have a list of everyone who has donated with me at the track and also inside my car for any interview after the race - which will allow me to name everyone through the PA system.... the announcer may not particular like it, but I'm sure the fans will find it interesting."
These cars cost thousands, some times 10’s of thousands every season to run and without big time name sponsors, many of them are left to pick up the bill on their own. This 10 Dollar Sponsorship experiment is the best way I have seen to help a driver without breaking the bank of those who would like to sponsor a driver. We may even see many other racers following suit in an effort to keep the dream alive.
